THE SIGNAL

On May 6, Anthropic flew into New York and launched 10 finance-specific AI agents built to handle pitchbook drafting, KYC screening, valuation reviews, credit memos, and month-end closes. Finance is now Anthropic's second-largest enterprise revenue source, with 40% of its top 50 customers in the sector. Within hours, the reaction online was loud: "Anthropic just automated the first-year analyst job at every bank on Wall Street." That take is worth reading carefully, because the fine print tells a different story.

WHY IT MATTERS TO YOU

Goldman Sachs posted 2026 summer analyst and compliance analyst positions this week. Anthropic's CEO confirmed that every agent output requires human review before it reaches a client. The workflows being automated are the ones that define a first-year analyst's first three months: pitchbook production, KYC assembly, and GL reconciliation. Those hours are being compressed. The analysts who move fastest will be the ones who know how to catch what the agent missed, explain what it produced, and decide what it cannot touch. That is a different job than assembling the deck yourself. Firms are still hiring for it.

THE SKILL OR TOOL

Two JVs dropped the same week. Goldman, Anthropic, Blackstone, and Hellman & Friedman launched a joint enterprise AI services firm. McKinsey and OpenAI announced a parallel one for consulting. Banking picked Anthropic. Consulting picked OpenAI. Both moves point to the same answer: these are the tools worth knowing before you walk in the door.

I have completed Anthropic's Intro to Claude Cowork certification and the Goldman Operations simulation on Forage. The Cowork certification teaches you how to direct, monitor, and validate agent outputs inside a real workflow. The Forage simulation covers trade settlement discrepancies and HNW asset transfers, the exact workflows these agents are being built around. Both are free. anthropic.com/academy and theforage.com, search Goldman Sachs.

THE QUESTION

If an AI agent drafted your pitchbook overnight, what is the one thing you would check before it goes to the MD?
