THE SIGNAL
Goldman Sachs warned of AI-driven labor displacement lasting years. ServiceNow's CEO put a number on it: college-graduate unemployment could cross 30% as AI agents absorb work previously assigned to new hires. Anthropic's own leadership called the reshaping of computer-based jobs painful and real. Three warnings in the same news cycle, from people whose firms are actively recruiting your class right now. This is forward guidance, not commentary from the sidelines.
WHY IT MATTERS TO YOU
The tasks being automated first were chosen deliberately. Pitchbooks teach you how deals are structured. Reconciliations teach you how money moves. KYC packs teach you how institutions think about risk. These were assigned to first- and second-year analysts because repetition builds judgment. Compressing them into an agent pass creates what nobody in these news cycles is naming directly: the apprenticeship compression problem. Your cohort will be asked to develop senior judgment without the junior reps who traditionally built it. That gap is real, and it will show up in performance reviews before most people recognize what caused it.
THE SKILL OR TOOL
The role being built around this gap already has a name inside the firms creating it. Anthropic embedded its Applied AI team directly inside FIS. Goldman has the same structure. The function is sometimes called a forward-deployed engineer: domain knowledge plus AI workflow design, placed at the point where the model touches real financial processes. It is the highest-demand, lowest-supply function in enterprise finance right now, and it requires no CS degree. The starting stack for building toward it is the Anthropic Cowork certification and the Goldman Operations simulation on Forage. Both are free and both are built around the workflows currently being compressed. anthropic.com/academy and theforage.com, search Goldman Sachs.
THE QUESTION
If the repetitive tasks that built senior analysts are being automated away, what are you doing deliberately to replace that repetition?
